Wow, has it been that long since I posted? No excuses for you, other than the usual “been so busy in first life” kinda sorta thing. Not that I haven’t been in SL. I must have bought and created well over a hundred outfits and spent thousands of lindens doing it since that last time. That, and the occasional dancing and hanging out with friends on Sunday nights at Z&A.

Out of darkness, light

I bought the Phyllidas Gown from Enfant Terrible and was just playing around with the lighting on my home parcel, when I realized how bizarre and sort of trippy that the sun setting, lighting and depth of field settings were making everything look. But the depth-of-field effects, unfortunately, do not show up when I download the images to my ancient PC. Regardless, here are the results of my latest effort at shooting in Firestorm with my out of date hardware!

How I spent my winter vacation

I love the winter. I love snow, and being put into a mesmerized trance when everything is frozen. Having said that, I appreciate a change of scenery like anybody else does! So for a little break from the cold, I visited Salt Water recently. A gorgeous place!

Lake effect

My Second Life homestead is almost always a winter home, with snow covered mountains in the distance, surrounded by an icy cold lake. Often, I just sit and meditate, listening to my favorite SL Radio Stream, or nothing at all. I get caught up in the lake, staring at it longingly, thinking about its mystery, and I get lost in its other rippling, mesmerizing effects. I am so drawn to the water; it’s as if I am a part of it, and it’s a part of me. So here I am: a part of it.

Retro pop Wisti

Recently, when I was bouncing around art and photos on flickr, which I often do, I found myself looking at pulp cover art from the 1960s, and it struck me that it would be fun to try to recreate a cover in SL using clothing and subjects as close to the original as I could find.  So I found a nice example on James Vaughan’s flickr stream that was painted by the great Robert McGinnis, and I attempted to pay tribute.

The experience of doing it was a blast!  While I could have “pushed” the end result further, I decided to go on to the next task at hand, which was actually buying some books off Amazon for illustration techniques using RL materials. 🙂

I enjoyed shopping for the clothing, especially looking around for hair that came close to what I wanted. In this case, I am actually wearing THREE sets of hair! Once I had the props I wanted, I made myself a pose that approximated the woman on the cover (which was fun in itself). Then all that was left to do was setting up a prim backdrop, adding some LUMIPro lighting, taking the snapshot, pulling it into Photoshop to add some “bubbles”, and poof, I was retro-popped.

Second Life Yearbook Smile Challenge

The wonderful Strawberry Singh added a blog challenge this week, the Second Life Yearbook Smile Challenge. So I went and dusted off my old yearbook, which definitely has seen better times! Our school was too cheap for color photos, lol, so mine is in black and white. Berry had asked in the challenge for us to write a brief note on how we managed to get our avatars to smile. All I did was adjust the mouth slider in “Appearance” mode! 🙂

Home Stretch
